Bishop Longin: Statement on the 2020 U.S. Census [ENGLISH/SERBIAN]
His Grace, our Bishop Longin encourages all the Serbian Orthodox faithful in the United States to participate in the forthcoming 2020 census. Please take a moment to read his words of instruction below, in both English and Serbian.

Reverend Fathers,
For centuries our people have struggled to preserve their venerable identity, and for centuries our Church has survived thanks to the strong faith that guided and saved us in various adversities, the faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, which in the past and in the present has proven and proved to be the only true path to our salvation. That is why, dear brethren, it is of utmost importance to support everything for the benefit of us, the Serbian people, our Serbian community and the Orthodox faith, to help preserve our culture, customs, languages and backgrounds, and we will only succeed if we who vow to serve Him urge our parishioners to do the same.
The 2020 U.S. Census is coming soon. This recording of all residents, different peoples, ethnic groups, diverse communities and national minorities occurs every ten years in the United States of America. That is why we must not miss the opportunity for all of us Serbs here on American soil to enroll and declare ourselves as "Serbian." It is crucial for our Serbian community in the diaspora to show how many there are, to prove that we are far more than the 178,000 officially recorded in the last census exactly ten years ago, and thus to give greater rights to ourselves and our loved ones. In the letter I deliver to you to share with your parishioners, you will find what we need to know and why it is crucial for all of us Serbs to be listed in America.
Therefore, I ask you to send, read, deliver, publish, send this message to all your parishioners and point out why it is important for us as a people and for our faith that we survive and grow as a community. The bigger we are, the greater our rights will be, first at the local and then at the federal level. With more residents we get the rights to larger funds from the federal budget that will help preserve our organizations, our schools, and therefore our cultural heritage and rich traditions that we have cherished for centuries. Let us act now lest we forget who we are and where we are from!

Часни Оци,
Вековима се наш народ борио да очува свој часни идентитет и вековима је наша Црква опстајала захваљујући снажној вери која нас је водила и у разним мукама спасавала, вери у Господа Исуса Христа која се и у прошлости и у садашњости показала као једини прави пут ка нашем спасењу. Зато је, драга браћо, од неизмерне важности да подржимо све што је за добробит нас, српског народа, наше српске заједцнице и православне вере, за помоћ очувања наше културе, обичаја, језика и порекла, а то ћемо успети једино ако ми који смо се заветовали да служимо Њему, апелујемо на наше парохијане да учине исто.
Ускоро је пред нама Попис становништва у Америци. Ово пописивање свих становника разних народа, етничких група, разних заједница и националних мањина дешава се сваких десет година у С.А.Д. Зато не смемо пропустити прилику да се сви ми Срби који живимо овде на америчком тлу упишемо и изјаснимо као “Срби”. Од суштинског је значаја за нашу српску заједницу у дијаспори да прикажемо колико нас има, да докажемо да нас је далеко више од 178.000 колико нас је званично забележено на последњем попису пре тачно десет година и да тиме омогућимо већа права себи и својим ближњима. У попратном писму које вам достављам да делите својим парохијанима наћи ћете и шта је све то што треба да знамо и зашто је од толике важности да се број Срба у Америци зна.
Зато вас молим да ово писмо које вам у прилогу шаљем, прочитате, доставите, објавите, упутите свим својим парохијанима и истакнете зашто је за нас као народ и за нашу веру значајно да опстајемо и да се развијамо као заједница. Што нас је више већа су нам права. Најпре на локалном, а потом и на савезном нивоу. На нама је да овим путем, путем просветитељства, наставимо и да се за његово очување боримо! Да се не заборави ко смо и одакле смо!
